|General Electric Gas Turbine Locomotives|
This is the Union Pacific gas turbine (nicknamed the "Big Blow"), which was an attempt at applying turbine technology (i.e., jet engines) to trains. It was a noisy behemoth, which, if idling under an overpass, could easily melt the asphalt street above. The turbines, as a class, were not in service long. The model above is by MTH in their Railking line; even so, the detail is quite true to the prototype, which is shown below.
This is a different model of the GE Turbine, nicknamed "Veranda" based on the long "porches" on either side of the locomotive.
